Riverbed Installation & Configuration

Teneo recommends that during any installation of optimisation technology, we work with the customer to benchmark application performance before and after optimisation deployment at a select number of sites. The aim of testing is to ascertain the expected performance gains given by the Steelhead appliances and thus enabling creation of valid site acceptance tests during roll-out. Benchmarks can be gathered using 3rd party monitoring tools such as Riverbed Cascade as well as using standard stopwatch timings.

Teneo provides two main Installation options for Riverbed:

Onsite Installation

Teneo’s Onsite Installation service is available around the world for a fixed fee. Out of hours installation is available at an additional cost. A qualified Teneo Riverbed engineer will attend site and physically install the Riverbed appliance, working with a Riverbed specialist over the telephone to run pre-defined acceptance tests.

These tests ensure that each Riverbed appliance is correctly configured and connected, is able to communicate with other appliances and is optimising traffic. This is particularly useful where the remote site does not have a WAN specialist.

Assisted Installation

Designed for customers that wish to self-install but do not have engineers onsite, Assisted Installation allows you to combine your own IT resources with Teneo’s support. A Teneo Riverbed specialist will talk your local IT contact through physically connecting the Riverbed appliance and will run acceptance tests either via a web session or over the telephone. Teneo’s Assisted Installation service also includes Staging.

Post-Implementation Acceptance Tests

Post-Implementation Acceptance Tests are born from initial design meetings with the customer and from benchmarking tests, and are signed off by the Teneo lead engineer and customer contact.

Standard Riverbed Steelhead acceptance tests include the following:

  • Steelhead deployed within the rack
  • Steelhead running agreed version of RiOS
  • All Interfaces up and showing no errors
  • Steelhead has peered with other devices
  • Steelhead has successfully joined the windows domain
  • Users can access CIFs file shares and Exchange
  • Seeing optimised connections for CIFS and Exchange
  • Power failure by-pass passes traffic within 2 seconds
  • Steelhead added to CMC successfully
  • Steelhead under management at Teneo NOC (in the case of a Teneo Managed Riverbed Steelhead Service)
